The more burned forests in Albania, the bigger the profits of some companies that always win the tenders for exploiting the burned tree trunks.
These companies have never known a crisis in their business, because the forests in Puke, Burrel, Shkoder, Tirane, Gjirokaster, Elbasan and especially Korce are always on fire.
90% of the fires for this year were intentional, which means that some of them were lit by shepherds for renewing pastures.
But highland forests in Puka, Malesi e Madhe, Lure and Korce have no pastures, only century old pine and oak trees.
In these areas there are some private companies that use the burned woods to produce coal and export it. But is there any connection between the increased number of fires and this business that knows no crisis?
Police arrested two arsonists in Korce, workers of a company that exploits burned forests.
In Shkoder and Puke, statistics show that these are the same companies that win each year the tenders for exploiting the burned trees.
The Korce Police announced on August 30th that they had arrested two citizens who worked at the Stratoberdha forest, in Vithkuq commune, for cutting trees in order to produce coal. They were released by the court a few days after due to the lack of evidence.
The forest at the Stratoberdha forest is burning. The coal will be in large quantities.
Top Channel filmed a hidden footage at the coal production site, managed by one of these companies who made everything possible to not allow the camera crew inside.
Most of the burned trees are exported to Greece and sources say that 4-5 trucks cross the Kapshtica border checkpoint each day, loaded in full with burned timber.
They are used for producing coal and raw material for furniture. The last forest burning in this district is the Bosdovec forest, a national park with very high trees.
According to the Police, the fire was intentional and most of the burned trees are a gold mine for those who own these businesses.
