The Vice President of Bulgaria, Iliana Iotova, was received in Shishtavec by dozens of local residents.

Shishtavec is an area with a Bulgarian minority, which has been claimed by Macedonia as well. During her visit, the Bulgarian Vice President was very clear in her message:

“I am very happy to listen to a Bulgarian dialect still being spoken today, and to see young people who have preserved their language, their culture and costumes. Let’s keep working so that Bulgarian is taught in schools as well”, she declared.

The Bulgarian Vice President visited the Kukes Municipality, which is responsible for the language used by this minority. Even here, her message was very clear as well.

“We are concerned about 9 Gora villages, where the Gorani live. There are Albanian citizens today living in these villages, but they used to have Bulgarian roots and we hope that they will preserve their traditions and language. We hope to cooperate with the local government for this”, said the Vice President of Bulgaria, Iliana Iotova.
