Bojko Borisov, the Prime Minister of Bulgaria, is trying to make good use of Bulgaria’s EU presidency, by helping encourage the accession of Western Balkan countries in the EU.
After meeting with the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, Borisov said that his tour proved that important that the region has for the EU.
“The Balkan region is an integral part of Europe. Its inclusion in the joint area of economic development and security is of key importance for the long-term stability of the EU”, Borisov declared.
The Bulgarian President underlined that it is also very important for the infrastructure projects to receive support from the European Commission.
“The building of a strategic infrastructure would encourage free trade, investment, competitiveness, capital movement, while cooperation in education and culture would guarantee reconciliation and good neighbouring relations”, Borisov said.
Juncker, on the other hand, said that after this tour he was returning in Brussels even more convinced that Balkan belongs to the EU.
