The Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, thanked the two families that cooperated and removed their illegal objects, to make way for the construction of Tirana’s Greater Ring Road.
Veliaj said that these families accepted the offer of the Tirana Municipality for having their rent paid for three years, and they allowed the demolition of their illegally built homes.
Referring to the case of Bajram Nelaj, Veliaj said that this is the best demonstration of everyone who profited from the lack of reaction by the institutions and built illegally, occupying properties owned by other persons.
15 buildings have been demolished so far. Hundreds of protesters who have built homes illegally, supported by the opposition, are blocking the road each day, demanding a full compensation by the government.
