A few months after approved by the Parliament, the government gave the
first signals for how the state budget can be reviewed for this year.

The Deputy Minister of Finances, Irena Beqiraj, declared that the budget will lose 6 billion ALL only due to the oil price drop. However, she said that there is a Plan B depending on the spending by June or September.

Oil royalty taxes have dropped with 1.2 billion ALL only for the first three months. Beqiraj said that some of the reasons that changed the plan are reimbursed VAT and a change of the way how business taxes are collected.

“If businesses had 10 ALL for VAT and 12 ALL for tax on profit, the system now investigates and the subject pays only 2 more ALL. Taxes in the past used to collect 12 ALL, the 10 ALL remained a debt to businesses and the revenues looked better”, Beqiraj declared.

The Deputy Minister asked more optimism from the public.

“The situation is not as bad as the media make it look. People must see some light in the end of the tunnel, because this will serve to the economy. The success is in that when you have a failure, things can be seen with optimism”, Beqiraj declared.
