The failure to realize revenues from taxes was one of the points for
which the government was criticized during the last year, not only by
the opposition, but also by the International Monetary Fund.

But this year has started differently. The tax revenues marked a strong increase in Janjary, reaching a historic record for the month.

Official data from the Ministry of Finances show that during the first month of the year, the government collected 32.2 billion ALL from taxes and other sources, compared top 26.3 billion in the same period of one year ago.

The growth is 22%. The figures show the strong performance in all main taxes. Tax from profit taxes increased with 3.7 times. From 393 million ALL in 2015, this year they were 1.47 billion ALL.

The revenues from the excise have almost doubled, while revenues from the income tax have also had a strong progress.

The only main tax that has not increased with a strong pace is VAT, from which the government has collected only 200 million ALL more this year.

While the revenues have increased in general, the budget has not been that dynamic as regards spending.

The government spent 400 million ALL less than the last year this January, and investments have been almost minimal.

The growth has allowed the budget to have a 9 billion ALL surplus. The budget of this year has a consolidating character, by predicting the lowest deficit since the beginning of transition, only 2.2% of the GDP.
