Brussels was not asked abut Waste Import. EU: “We are ready, if you want”

Top Channel asked the European Commission an official stance about the
amendment that the Albanian Parliament made to the waste import law of
2011, and if these amends were based on the EU legislation.

Spokesperson for the European Commission, Maja Kocijancic, declared that the waste management are part of the EU legislation, and the Commission is aware that the amends of 2011 were presented to Albania and are expected to enter in effect.

“The Commission found that the legislation was held for approaching the Albanian legislation with that of the EU. The Commission is ready to make a complete evaluation of these amends, if the reviewed law will be sent officially for this purpose”.

This last sentence raises suspicions that Brussels was left out of this consultation. The Ministry of Integration says that they have not been able to give an official declaration about the approaching of the law.

Only after Top Channel inquired this Tuesday, the initiator of the law amends, Eduard Shalsi, asked the Ministry of Integration to take an official opinion from the EU delegation, regarding these amends.

In the letter sent to the Minister of Integration, it says that the amend would help the process for reviewing the Presidential decree that returned the law with the argument that it goes against the European legislation of waste management. At least in this point, it seems that the President was right.
