Graham Styles, Head of the Session for Albania, Kosovo and Macedonia at
the Western Balkan Directory for Enlargement at the British Foreign
Office, explained in an interview for Top Channel how the British
government sees Albania’s effort in realizing the five priorities.

Graham Styles: The UK has a leading role in supporting the aspirations for joining the EU. We support the reforms started by the government and we were impressed by the level of determination for it. It will be a difficult and long process, but we must make sure that it will be realzied well. The reforms should be stable and the process should be irreversible.

Graham Styles thinks that the judiciary reform is important, but the other priorities should also not be forgotten.

Graham Styles: There are five priorities, all of them important. The judiciary reform is the most important. If you realize this reform well, many things will change. This means that Albania becomes a better place to live, which treats even other issues, such as the fight against corruption and organized crime. On the same time, this turns Albania into a more attractive country for visitors. If Albania will be successful with the judiciary reform, this will be an important step in the path towards the EU. We know that this is a controversial issue and will produce difficult political decision, but it is worth doing it.

When asked if the judiciary reform means more possibilities for the EU negotiations, Graham styles leaves to be understood that it is not enough.

Graham Styles: “The Albanian government did a good thing to consider the judiciary reform as the key of all reforms. We agree with it. This reform is important for a series of other issues. But this is not the only thing we want Albania to do. There are five priorities and we want to see progress in them. We and the other EU countries should be convinced that the process is true. It is right to say that if Albania passes the judiciary reform, which requires a long time, the Great Britain and the other countries will take this in consideration for the progress with the criteria.
