Britain gets closer to Balkan, while Trump’s position not clear yet

Experts such as Richard Weitz, from the Hudson Institution in the USA,
consider the US Senate ratification of Montenegro’s NATO accession as a
signal showing that the US is still loyal to NATO and its European partners.

This loyalty was questioned during the electoral campaign of Donald Trump, but while European leaders started taking guesses about the US President’s future plans, Britain started its own initiatives in Balkan.

British Prime Minister, Theresa May, proposed UK as the hosting country for the Western Balkan summit, planned for 2018.

Analysts believe that May is trying to show Europe that the British presence in Balkan will continue to be stable.

This comment from May, including the one about the assassination plot of Montenegro’s Prime Minister, are interpreted as an effort to show that even after Brexit, Britain will never stop being an important international player.

While the world is still trying to figure out what political line is Trump going to follow in Europe, London may try to take a leading role, even in Balkan.

Trump’s critics against NATO, however, don’t necessary show that the US President will withdraw his support from the military alliance.
