Bregu: 12 priorities, test for the politics

The Albanian Minister of Integration, Majlinda Bregu commented
positively the return of the opposition in Parliament, valuing it as an
indispensable part of the integration processes, especially for the
fulfillment of the 12 recommendations.

“The opposition has returned after a long time of non-institutionalization initiatives. Abandoning the Parliament was a decision of the opposition leader. I see it as a good sign that Mr. Rama changed his mind for returning in the institution that he despised for two years and that he replaced with tents that were more unstable than those of the Libyan dictator”, Bregu declared.

Mrs. Bregu sees the fulfillment of the political criteria, one of the 12 recommendations, closely connected with the commitments of the opposition.

“All initiatives, such as the visa lifting, the SAA, all Albanian government obligations regarding the reforms have been fulfilled. The other reforms have had no contribute from the opposition. The opposition’s lack of contribute can be felt. The Prime Minister has no responsibility, and the opposition leader must not enjoy that something did not go well for his country. But the process went well. We have 12 recommendations ahead, which are a package that was given to Albania as a test for the political cooperation. The laws that require more than 35 of the MPs are 16, which have been blocked for more than one year ago. The next recommendation, totally realizable, is the fourth one, for fulfilling the recommendations of OSCE-ODIHR. If the opposition has decided to contribute after 24 months, they should not stop this initiative”, Bregu declared.

To the question if Albania will receive the invitation for becoming a candidate country on 12 October, Mrs. Bregu gives this answer:

“The integration process doesn’t end this year, and not even after two years. Albania has fulfilled a big part of the EU obligations. For all countries that need to be convinced that the Parliament will not be abandoned anymore, this is a decision that can be taken. Today is September 7th, and we’re on the edge of the time limit for consulting all member countries. I expect a report for the return of the opposition in Parliament, a return that should leave traces in a near future”, Bregu underlined.

Regarding the Wikileaks publications for Albania, the Minister of Integration declared that they will have no negative effect for Albania’s image.

“I haven’t heard of any negative effects given by the Wikileaks cables in other countries, at least as far as I know. This information leak is something else, and it doesn’t represent the stance of the country from which the information was stolen, a country that is an important partner of Albania”, Bregu added.
