Brace: Strike aims to block status

While he failed to mention the hunger strikes held in the past years, when he was Prime Minister, such as that of the Socialist Party and that of the former political prisoners, Berisha mentioned another hunger strike, much earlier in time.

“Mr.Parliament Speaker, you must explain. For ten days you blocked this room. The drug barons who created the drug highways, seized the hunger strike tents. This is a history of shame. You must respect the citizens’ rights in this protest. Those who think that this damages the status, are wrong and are lying all day long. The opposite of this damages the status”, declared the former Prime Minister, Sali Berisha.

“I just heard the argument that the hunger strike is not against the status. I have here the recording of the session held four years ago, and this is what Mr.Berisha declared: ‘Don’t forget that in a time when these stances were adopted (the strike and the EU decision), the most important and the most historic decision were taken for Albania. This was not necessary in a time when the decision in Brussels was being taken. You built a camp in front of my office. I had nothing with it and you could stay as much as you wanted, but was it the right moment to give a message, when the biggest decisions for Albania were being taken? All I can do is to respect any decision, but what happens at the end? Nothing, besides a big division between you and the EU report’. So let’s not base things on amnesia, due to the age, but let’s listen to things that have been recorded and documented”, declared the Socialist Party Parliament Member, Erjon Brace.

The former Parliament Speaker, Jozefina Topalli, reported a violation of the parliamentary regulation and procedure for the Democratic Party’s request to establish another Parliamentary commission that would investigated the drug traffic.

“The candidate status will be taken, because Albania and the Albanian people have fulfilled the conditions three years ago. What is in danger now, is what is happening with the drug traffic. The visa free regime is in danger. The Parliament speaker can never decide if a Parliamentary commission will be established or not. This was a big mistake”, declared Jozefina Topalli.

“You’re the last one to give a lecture for Parliamentary practices, because you made a mess with this Parliament”, answered the Head of the Socialist Parliamentary Group, Gramoz Ruci.
