The Kingdom of Netherlands and their ambassador in Tirana, Martin Dela
Beij, gave a clear message to the Albanian opposition, saying that
boycott does not help the aspiration of the Albanian people to approach
the European family.
“A full or partial boycott of the Parliament, usage of harsh language, including extreme polarization, does not help and has not put Albania closer to the European Union. A good functionality of the Parliament, the public institutions and justice system helped the Netherlands get stronger towards the European Union. It would also help Albania with the economic and social help”, Ambassador declared.
As for the Foreign Policy Forum 2014, organized by the Albanian Institution for International Studies, ambassador Martin Dela Beij declared that the comparison of the Ukrainian protests with the Albanian ones is out of place.
“These comments are outside any limit. This cannot be compared. We are in two different situations to compare them with each other. Let’s continue working together with Albania and the European Union, as we have done recently”, the Ambassador declared.
This was the advise of the Ambassador for the government and opposition as regards the hot debates regarding the public administration appointments,
“The government and the opposition must work based on the law. This would help reinforcing institutions and above all, functionality based on merits”.
Martin Dela Beij expressed what the Government of Netherlands thinks about the status of Albania.
“The position held by the Government of Netherlands is that Albania might potentially take the candidate status in June 2014, but many things should happen before opening the negotiations with the European Union”.
Top Channel has learned that these declarations of the Ambassador arrived a few hours before a working dinner between the Netherlands chief diplomat and the opposition leader, Lulzim Basha.
