Ministry of Environment halted the construction works of both companies
that have started the demolition of the Botanical Garden for building
the new Tirana Outer Road Ring.

Deputy Minister of Environment, Arben Demeti, declared that these companies do not have environmental permissions, and the paperwork for such licenses might take a long procedure.

“Our inspectors intervened and stopped the construction works until the environmental permission will be issued. We will consult a wide range of civil society factors, and afterwards will assign the terms and conditions of the final environmental permission”, Demeti declared.

Which are the critera that construction companies must fulfill for receiving environmental permission? Deputy Minister Demeti explains that minimally, these companies must compensate the environmental damage by planting trees in another area.

“We are all very sensitive regarding this issue, because the Botanical Garden is unique for Albania, and we must minimize damages”, Demeti underlined.

The construction of the Tirana Outer Ring, which will be 5 to 6 km long, is divided in three segments. The works for the first segment have not started yet, while the construction work of two others has been suspended.
