Bosnian goods tax encourages recognition

Kosovo’s recent decision for establishing reciprocity measures against
Serbian imports, and by taking the control of northern border
checkpoints has attracted international attention. But Prishtina has
also placed a 10% customs tax on Bosnian imports. This step was planned also for encouraging Sarajevo to recognize Kosovo independence.

Prishtina established reciprocity measures against all Serbian imports, as response to an identical action taken by Belgrade against Kosovo goods. This decision was the execution of the government order for taking under control the checkpoints in the border with Serbia, which brought gunfights and left one Kosovo agent dead.

On July 20th, Prishtina took another decision – that of implementing a 10% customs tax for all goods that come from neighboring Bosnia. Although both measures were masked with the language of trade reciprocity, another reason might be the fact that none of these two countries have recognized Kosovo independence.
