The declaration of the Albanian Foreign Minister, Ditmir Bushati, caused
the Serbian Ambassador to leave the US-Adriatic Card 5 meeting that
closed the Albanian leadership of this initiative.
“We see no reason to postpone the full membership of Kosovo”, Bushati declared.
When asked about the action of the Serbian ambassador, the Albanian Foreign Minister declared:
“This is the position held by Serbia. My mandate is to articulate our interests and not those of Serbia. Every country of the region has its own relation with NATO, the security challenges or others that the western civilization is facing today. We wanted all-inclusiveness with Serbia too, since this is the best way to not create gaps from the security aspect”, Bushati declared.
Despite the Serbian reaction, which is an observing country like Kosovo, the refusal of the Prishtina application ni this initiative was made by Bosnia Hercegovina, a country with voting rights.
“This is not up to me. Every country has its own representative to protect its own interests. I will protect those of Albania”, Bushati declared.
The Adriatic Card was created in May 2003, as an initiative of the US for assisting Albania, Croatia and Macedonia with the NATO membership.
Today, with the membership of Bosnia and Hercegovina and Montenegro, the initiative has five member countries.
