Blood feud isolation

On the international day of Declaratin of Human Rights, one of the
mostly discussed problematic in the conference organized by the
Ombudsman in Tirana, was the blood feud.

The Minister of Social Welfare, Erjon Veliaj, who returned from Brussels, declared that this phenomenon is becoming even more concerning now, since blood feuds are being used as a business to gain asylum.

“The fictive number of fake blood feud asylum seekers is concerning. For some people this is the biggest suffering of their lives, for others it has turned into the biggest business of their lives. Today you see second hand newspapers that publish fictive stories and damage those who are really in a need for this cause. They are paid to print a newspaper, which is used to an European Union country or the United States of America for asylum. There should be penalties about this”, Veliaj declared.

A partial study shows that there are 95 isolated families with 230 persons, 60 of whom are under 18. These children don’t know how to read or write.

“If we would discuss what these people would need… they need everything. They need even someone to enter their houses and telling them what is happening outside. They need even food or clothes. But most of all, they need freedom. We need to engage the state pyramid, the schools, the police, the civil society, the media… everyone must raise their voices and pressure those who can do more”, declared Mentor Kikia, director of the Free Thought forum.

With the digitalization of the economic assistance, these families can become part of the scheme, since before that they could not appear for applying.
