A blind student has not been allowed to stay with her aid dog in the
ferry’s restaurant, and she has been even threatened to be thrown at sea
together with the dog.

Kedrit Shalari, 24, traveled with a ferry owned by “European Ferries” from Vlore to Italy where she has faced discrimination. The young woman has been living in Italy for the past 10 years, where she also studies, and her story has been spread in animal protection blogs.

She needs her dog to lead her while working and be able to finish her daily things without the need of other people. But when the dog led her to the ferry’s restaurant, two men told her to get outside the restaurant.

Even after explaining that she was blind and couldn’t stay without her dog, and even after showing all the necessary documents that allow her to stay with her dog in any place, the two men not only didn’t back off, but they threatened to throw her at sea together with the dog.

One passenger who witnessed what happened was revolted to the point of phoning the Italian Embassy in Tirana, from where he was advised to talk with the captain, but he was unable to meet him.

For more than three hours Vera was obliged to stay in the benches for the entire trip and not allowed to stay in the restaurant.

“I felt bad because they do not respect the norms and the laws that are made for people like mea, and because it is terrible to see how they treat my Vera (dog), the only joy that I have, and because no one should be treated like this, especially when he is powerless”, she declared.

On August 17th, Kedrit Shalari appeared at the Lece Carabinieri to sue to the Euroepan Ferries company.
