The baptizing of Christ in the waters of the Jordan River is one of the
days that Orthodox devotees celebrate by throwing the cross in water.
The mass in Gjirokaster was held at the Church of Archangels, and the cross was thrown into the Drino River. Similar ceremonies have been organized in Permet, Saranda, Elbasan, Durres, Korce, Berat and all areas with Orthodox followers.
The Ceremony in Elbasan was held in two churches, the Church of Saint Nicholas, in a pool complex near the city, where the cross was caught by the 17-year-old Klajdi Karaj.
The second ceremony was held in the Saint Mary Church, in the “Kala” neighborhood, which is led by Father Nikolla Marku.
Hundreds of believers gathered in Durres, where the cross was thrown into the sea.
Several villages in Korce consider this as one of the most important celebrations. Hundreds gathered in the Polene village and the Dunavec river, where father Ilia Kotmilo threw the cross and dozens of young men rushed to get it. The celebrations continued with the Carnivals in the village center.
The Berat clergymen threw the cross in the Osum River, a ceremony that is being celebrated massively since 1990 by the Orthodox believers. Present in the ceremony this time was also the Parliament Speaker, Ilir Meta.
