The Head of the Department of Infective Diseases at the Public Health
Institution, Silva Bino, speaks about the voices saying that immigrants
from Guinea have arrived in Vlore and they might carry the Ebola virus.
Bino says that the immigrants were not suspected of having the disease and they didn’t come from dangerous places. She adds that everything was speculation, and the immigrants came from Eritrea and Syria, which have not been affected by the virus.
Bino underlined that Albania is not in danger for carrying Ebola from African countries, and as regards the airplane travels, she tried to make a clear distinction between malaria and Ebola.
“The chances for the transmission of Ebola through flights is low, and they are lower for Albania and even other European countries that have a higher traffic. Malaria is different from Ebola, because it could affect anyone, but Ebola is transmitted only through contact with the body fluids of a patient”, Bino underlined.
She says that the border police has been instructed for evaluating the risk for immigrants who come from dangerous areas such as Guinea, Sierra Leone, Nigeria, Liberia, etc.
