The former General Chief of Police, Bilbil Mema, was incited on Top
Channel’s news edition to speak about the tragic murder of the Chief of
the Shijak Police and the crime situation in the country.

According to Mema, the crime situation has deteriorated and this is shown by the penal acts and the criminal activity in which the country has been involved recently, and that peaked with the murder of the Chief of Police, Adem Tahiraj.

“The situation has deteriorated and this is also shown by yesterday’s event. This shows the initiative taken by the criminal groups against the State Police. The Police most mobilize and all institutions must cooperate to improve the situation”, Mema declared.

The former Chief of Police declared that the alarming crime figures are a result of the lack of independent institutions and corruptions. According to him, more work is needed and politics must think twice before passing laws that are related with the public safety. For Mema, the increased criminality is a consequence of the weakened state and the sophistication of the crime.

As regards the justice system, as the last link of the verdicts against crime suspects, Bilbil Mema appealed for the laws to get improved and added that for the case in question there is room to investigate and find discover how was released someone who had evidence against the crimes for which he was charged.
