The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, mentioned the name of the
former President, Bamir Topi, regarding the serious murder of Judge
Skerdilajd Konomi in Vlore.
The government leader released this declaration from the Parliament, after the Socialist Group leader, Gramoz Ruci, accused the majority of degrading the justice system in Albania as regards crime and based on the frightening increase of murders in the country.
The Socialist leader, Gramoz Ruci: In a very demonstrative way, in the middle of the city of Vlore, a justice representative was killed. And there has been no answer from the police even today. And here we are, with another crime in broad daylight. You are giving the blame to the opposition for a criminal that you used for your electoral campaign in Shijak. That’s why crime feels protected on the right. This is how Mr. Berisha treats the criminals, and they can feel they can shoot a police officer not once, but five times, without any fear. What you do is different from what you say, because everyone saw on January 21st how peaceful demonstrators were killed, and because the justice is under your personal orders and obstacles, their trials are being delayed and they are being found innocent one after another. That’s why this system must be overthrown. 158 people have died in only three months. Whose turn is it? We must not start doing justice when it comes to our own children, because these who have died are children of the Albanians, all sons of a mother. That’s why we demand justice reforms.
Prime Minister Berisha: The terrorist murder of judge Konomi was very painful, but you must be sincere in the public and the press that the main suspect for this was your Topi (former President Bamir Topi). I have no facts about this, but people were saying that he had tried to steal lands in that area with his people, and he met with difficulties with the families.
As for the disaster of the justice system Berisha blamed the former vice Chairman of the High Council of Justice, Kreshnik Spahia.
“What did Topi do? What is happening today with the justice system? Go and speak with the judges. I felt so much sorrow when I heard that… and you can read this in the international reports… that to get transferred from Durres to Tirana they had to pay 50.000 EUR”, the Prime Minister declared.
The opposition accused the Prime Minister of handpicking the heads of the justice institutions, same as the current President, the head of the Secret Service and as it is expected to happen with the new General Prosecutor.
