The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, dedicated the first
government meeting after losing the elections to the news that the Trans
Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) has been selected by Shah Deniz shareholders,
and now this important international gas network will include Albania
too. The TAP project included Albania around 2009, helped by an
intensive lobbying of the Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha.
Now that the project has been approved, Berisha declared that this is the most important and strategic decision for Albania, after the NATO membership, and that will bring direct benefits to the Albanian citizens.
“It will create thousands of jobs in Albania, hundreds of businesses and services for Albania. It will be a powerful channel of employment and revenues for the Albanian people. It is an extraordinary victory in the strategic and economic point of view. Certainly that the guarantee of the European integration prevails. These are two different issues, but the solution of the energy problem is final”, Berisha declared.
During the day Berisha met with representatives from the Azerbaijan government and the Shah Deniz 2 consortium. Berisha declared that he gave a very important guarantee in this meeting, which is related to the decision of the new government for the pipeline.
“All agreements for TAP have been unanimously approved in the Albanian Parliament, and this is a guarantee that the project will have a complete support of the next government and next opposition in our parliament”, Berisha declared.
Berisha appeals administration to keep working
The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, used this government meeting to appeal the public administration that they should work normally until the new Parliament decides about the new government.
“Any demobilization is dishonest, indecent and unacceptable. The administration must work in full capacity until the day when we will hand it over. The next government will chose the organization and new motivations. We will continue with our project until the last day. On the last day, a new management will decide the standards and rules, and they have the right to continue with its platform”, Berisha declared.
This was the first government meeting after the June 23rd elections, where the right wing lost against the left coalition. Yesterday Berisha declared his resignation from all duties in the Democratic Party, and accepted the verdict of the Albanian people.
