During a speech held today at the Council of Ministers, the Albanian
Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, focused on the preparations for the
celebration of the 100th anniversary of Independence.
The Independence Year starts on 28 November 2011 and continues through all 2012. According to the PM, this year must be marked with several activities for honoring the Albanians’ sacrifices that enabled us to be free today and dream for a bright future.
“This year should be marked for honoring those who raised the flag of Skanderbeg in Vlore, 1912. They raised the Albanian flag, the oldest and most beautiful flag of Europe. The 100th Independence Anniversary will honor the blood shed by the Albanians for independence, the year in which we will honor the efforts for uniting the Albanian lands and the extraordinary sacrifices, since the League of Prizren”.
The Prime Minister valued the Albanians of Kosovo, Macedonia and Diaspora for achieving Kosovo’s independence.
As for the celebrations, Berisha declared that there will be a magnificent concert with a pan Albanian symphony. In this celebration there will be present Albanian leaders from Kosovo, Macedonia, Montenegro, the Arberesh of Italy and Diaspora.
The government’s major plans are four:
“The new Parliament and the new stadium will be built. This government is committed to keep this promise, by respecting the laws of this country. The biggest act of this 4-year mandate, the Tirana-Elbasan tunnel, is another monument of success, which will connect the Albanians even more. Digital Albania, which belongs to the future, is also an excellent gift for the Albanians”.
The Prime Minister proposed to declare 2012 as the Year of Independence, and the establishment of a Parliamentary Commission for celebrating the 100th year of Independence.
Berisha thanked the Macedonian Prime Minister, Nikola Gruevski, President Ivanov and all Albanian leaders of Macedonia for the worm welcome.
“This was a short meeting, but very fruitful, because we achieved important economic agreements”, Berisha declared.
The agreements include the construction of a heavy transport railway terminal in Struge and the railway line Lin-Kercove, a pact for sending goods from the Durres port to Macedonia; the construction and improvement of road infrastructure between the two countries and free border crossing, only with an identity card.
Berisha also valued the implementation of the Ohrid Agreement for respecting the rights of the Albanians in Macedonia.
