The Parliament room turned into an arena of debates and accusations
between the majority and the opposition, focused on the Fier District
stalemate and the voting of qualified majority laws.
Prime Minister Berisha declared that the last deadline for this voting is November 19th, and that he is ready to gather the Parliament at any moment, day or night, if the opposition gives the vote.
Berisha emphasized that the country must progress with the reforms, and reminded the invitation made to the to bring any amend for improving important laws.
“I have guaranteed the SP that we are ready to review with seriousness all propositions and suggestions for the law”, Berisha declared.
The Prime Minister accused the opposition leader of blocking these laws by using the Fier District Council as a pretext.
“You cannot use pretexts to punish every Albanian citizen and their dreams. This situation has a special meaning when it happens in the 100th year of independence”, Berisha declared. According to him, the proposition for the motion will resolve the Fier District issue once and for all.
But the Socialist Parliamentary Group leader, Gramoz Ruci, declared that the Prime Minsiter lies when he says that the laws have been waiting for two months.
OSCE: Disappointed if laws do not pass
Before the debates in Parliament for the qualified majority laws, the OSCE leader, Eugen Wollfarth, made the last appeal to the Albanian politicians.
“It would be a disappointment first of all for the Albanians, because their EU integration path is a national goal. I invite all politicians to take the reforms on time”, Wollfarth declared.
The OSCE ambassador declared that the European Commission has underlined these three laws and added that he joins those who say that the time should be used in its best, and that the decisions should be taken on time.
Asked about what Albania could be facing if the three laws would not be approved today, the OSCE ambassador declared that the next year is a year of elections. After that, more time would be needed to progress with the EU integration. This means that the time is passing by and the politicians are not investing as they should in the reform process. Albania will have a future, despite what happened, but this future will be faster and better, if the right decisions will be taken today”, Wollfarth underlined.
