The The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, held a meeting with the
women of Elbasan, focusing on the government’s efforts for gender
equality in the next government meeting.
Berisha declared that his government has reduced the gap between men and women, and promised to work even more on this topic.
“Albania has the patriarch wall still working, but what mostly affects the gender inequality is the financial aspect. Men take the economic situation under control and leaves to his wife only the domestic situation. The government’s role is undeniable, and we started fighting this great gap between men and women
We strongly affected it by increasing wages in the public administration sector, most of which is made of young women, and the situation changed. It is not where it should be, but the difference has fallen down to 17% under the European Union average. We are leaving behind today 11 other European Union members in this area”, Berisha declared.
Another point mentioned by the Prime Minister was the infant mortality, which, according to him, is among the lowest in the world.
The government leader mentioned some of what he considered achievements from his government, focusing on the newly paved roads and other topics.
“We made it possible for the European Council to recommend the candidate status. Their condition was for Rama to vote the integration laws, but he chose blockage”, Berisha declared.
