Due to the actuality, the accusations of the opposition against the
Minister of Defense, Arben Imami, were the focus of the press conference
with Prime Minister Berisha.
Ready to accept the establishment of an Investigative Commission from the opposition, the Prime Minister accused the Socialist leader, Edi Rama, of trying to damage the image of Albania through defamation.
“They know that there is not traffic, but they don’t care about this. They care only about defamation. They know that this practice doesn’t exist. But as regards the registration, I have to say that this is a terrible obsession of Edi Rama, who checks his office for wire taps each time that he enters”, Berisha declared.
Meanwhile, the recommendation of Brussels for removing the immunity of judges and politicians has remained unfulfilled. The PM invited Mr. Rama to support the initiative of the majority for the Constitutional changes of removing the immunity, by not bringing justifications.
“First of all, the majority has accepted the variant of the opposition, but Rama regrets every step that he takes. I don’t regret anything. I take my responsibilities when there is a mistake. He speaks about a council of billionaires in my government, but why is he keeping my government members with immunity? How can you explain to the Socialists that you’re keeping the government with immunity”, Berisha declared.
As regards the dissatisfactions of small parties, including his allies, and for the fact that the electoral reform did not review the system correction, the Prime Minister appeared calm about his relations with the allies, saying that they will enter the elections of 2013 with a big coalition.
According to the Prime Minister, the Electoral Code is not the basis for winning the elections. Here he had a message for the opposition leader, who was satisfied with the legal guarantees that the amends will give to the Socialists.
“I guarantee that the law of 2016-2017 will be changed for any other need of Rama. It is not the law who gives the victory, but the Albanian citizens, the electors, the voters. Rama believes that he can win through the law”, Berisha declared.
Less than 10 months have remained from the other elections, and the Prime Minister says that he is working for a third mandate. By not accepting that there have been signs of fatigue in the government, the Prime Minister declared that he will accept any kind of results.
Balla reacts: Prime Minister lies
After Berisha’s discussion with the journalists, the Socialist Party reacted through MP Taulant Balla.
Balla declared that Prime Minister Berisha is irresponsible when he talks about economic growth and that he lies when he speaks about success in war against corruption.
Balla declared that the procedures for the inspection at the Ministry of Defense have started since February and the SP has followed all legal ways for performing a parliamentary inspection in this Ministry.
“Berisha must answer to the Albanians for the arms traffic”, Balla declared.
SP: Berisha blocked inspection
The Socialist Party accused Prime Minister Berisha of blocking the Parliamentary inspection of the Ministry of Defense, due to his full involvement in illegal activities, starting from the illegal conversation registration of the opposition and to the arms traffic.
“Berisha lies about blocking the inspection, showing once again that he is involved in teh scandal that endangered his career, not only for buying equipments with whom he spies the opposition and foreign diplomats, but also for the arms traffic, affairs which he and his son have not given up even after the death of 26 people”, Balla declared.
According to the Socialist MP, the procedures for the Parliamentary inspection at the Ministry of Defense have started five years earlier with the submission of a request at the respective commission of the Albanian Parliament.
“This request has taken the approval of this commission on May 18th, with the approval of the then Interior Minister, Bujar Nishani, and the Minister of Defense, Arben Imami. On June 6th, the Democratic Mp, Leonard Demi, sent to the Ministry a decision that authorizes a Parliamentary Inspection at the Ministry of Defense”, Balla underlined.
Balla confirmed the existence of a series of other requests, the most recent of which, according to him, was sent a few days ago, when the Chairman of the National Security Commission, Leonard Demi, has presented other cases that request Parliamentary inspection.
According to the Socialists, this right is guaranteed by the Constitution and the Regulation of the Albanian Parliament. Balla made public another element that that for the Socialist Party is a new scandal.
“There is more than 1 year that Jozefina Topalli withholds a law that has been prepared by British experts for the Parliamentary surveillance of the intelligence instittuion. Berisha must explain why he and Topalli withhold this draft law that is a necessity for Albania’s commitment as a NATO member”, Balla declared.
