The meeting of the DP National Council took place today at the headquarters of the democratic opposition, with the participation of former Prime Minister Sali Berisha and other members of the DP.
Berisha complained about the removal of immunity after corruption investigations, calling it a ‘political move’.
“The truth is uncomfortable. Even in Tunisia, Uganda, Venezuela, Russia they have arrested the leader of the opposition. Why? Because they have spoken the truth bluntly. This only happens in non-democratic countries, and unfortunately this virus has arrived here as well. I am not only talking about the arrest of Sali Berisha, but the symptoms have been around for a long time, since my declaration ‘non grata’.
“Out of the fear they have, they want to ban the name of Sali Berisha from the ballot paper, and now they want to imprison Sali Berisha, without any evidence. Ladies, gentlemen, sir, madam, Before you repeat this accusation about Sali Berisha, check your pockets. I am Sali Berisha, I am never defeated”, Berisha said among other things.
In his speech, the former prime minister expressed his conviction that he will not “let go” of the opposition and that now a new phase of the opposition action begins.
For the December 27 protest, Berisha referred to the clash with the split faction within the DP: “We will defend the party’s logo tooth for tooth, without hesitation because that logo is ours. And this battle is not only for the logo, but also for inspiring the Albanians to wake up the lion, to overthrow the regime.”
Berisha requested the commitment of young people and women politically, which would mark a historic success, to overthrow the “narco-dictatorship”.
“Young people must be engaged. You have to motivate them politically. This would be one of our greatest successes. Women, due to immigration, are today a numerical and qualitative majority. Let’s invite ladies to become part of our battle. I guarantee you that we will overthrow the narco-dictatorship. The actions of PM Rama prove that he is afraid of being overthrown. But we have to take the turn, denunciation alone is not enough. Therefore, more engagement of young people and women is required.”
