Berisha: “Gerdec, a state murder”

The Gerdec Tragedy is the weak point of the Sali Berisha government. 26
people died in that tragedy, and his son was accused of being involved.
For this reason, Berisha’s opponents mention Gerdec as soon as possible,
but this Thursday the former PM mentioned himself, after the
17-year-old boy died at the Sharra landfill.

“Ardit Gjoleka’s death is a state murder. Gerdec also should be considered as such, but you don’t have human conscience”, the former PM said.

In an interview for Top Channel, the former PM explains why he considers Gerdec a state murder, although not intentionally.

“State murders are deaths caused directly by the state. They could be intentional or unintentional. MEICO was responsible for Gerdec, the government, which didn’t guarantee security for its workers. The accident was preventable, if MEICO would have not allowed the colossal quantity of gunpowder”, he said.

The former PM gives another explanation.

“I would have declared Gerdec a state murder, but I could not do it without a Court verdict. The current government can do it”, he said.
