Berisha: Arson, a serious crime

The Albanian Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, is convinced that most of the
fires that broke up recently were caused by arsonists rather than
temperatures.

Fortunately, the fires have caused no victims, but the other damages were considerable especially in forests, where the Prime Minister says that more than 1690 hectares have been burned by the shephards each year.

“I am convinced that 99.9% of the fires are an act of malicious and criminal people who burn the property of somebody else”, Berisha declared.

Berisha condemned the arsonists and declared that besides burning the forests, they also put human lives in danger. The PM was also not content by the Prosecution.

“More than 70 people have been arrested. One resident from Golem in Gjiroaster received a message yesterday saying ‘The person who burned us was arrested by the police and released by the prosecution’”,  Berisha declared.

By emphasizing the engagement of hundreds of vehicles and of more than 3000 people in putting out the fires, Berisha criticized the opposition leader for the way he treated the issue of the fires.

“It’s regrettable that the opposition continues a unique tradition in Europe. Rama thinks that every natural disaster can turn into a political capital. If you notice, he has never appealed in his declaration to report the arsonists or to support the firefighters”, Berisha declared.

The PM asked the Justice Minister to review the laws about arson, an act that according to him should be considered a serious crime.
