Belgium: “Albania should not have been on the list of safe countries of origin”

The State Council of Belgium decided to remove Albania from the list of
safe countries of origin for refugees, rejecting this way the royal
decree of May 11th, 2015.
The decision was taken on June 23rd, after a request filed by three non-government organizations which are against the rejection of some asylum requests from Albania. These NGO-s insist that Albania is not safe, since asylum-seeker file their requests for blood feuds and discrimination for their sexual orientation
But, for the opposition of Albania, MP Arben Ristani said that “the real reason is that the government of Edi Rama has allowed more criminals to be present in the public administration, and no EU country can consider safe a country where a bank van is robbed inside an airport”.
Now it remains to be seen if the State Council order, which is a court that rules on decisions taken by the government, will be respected by the Belgian government and allow Albania to be removed from the list of safe countries of origin.
