The parliamentary investigation into the two heralthcare concession contracts, the one for ‘sterilization’ and the ‘Check up’, started today with debates between MPs.

MP Albana Vokshi made it clear that the Assembly will investigate only two of the four concessions that the opposition had in its plans.

The opposition group ‘Rithemelimi’ left out of the investigation the concession of dialysis and laboratory services that cost Albanian taxpayers 28 million euros every year, and are connected to the private “American Hospital”.

Vokshi said: “The two contracts that will be investigated, the ‘Sterilization’ and ‘Check Up’ concessions, amount to 200 million euros. For us, this is not only ‘abuse of duty’ but also corruption at high levels of the government and institutions”.

Socialists read the words of the head of the commission as ‘political attacks’, warning to abandon the meeting.

MP Ndreca: ‘Referring to the statements, it is clear that you have prejudiced the activity, if you continue to conclude before starting the work of the commission, you have violated the constitutional principle of non-prejudice of the case, which is the reason why we are investigating. If you continnues I will leave.’

Plarent Ndreca’s warnings did not calm the situation and the parties took the accusations to another level, that of conflict of interest.

The investigation, which is expected to last four months, has been requested by the opposition to start with Prime Minister Edi Rama. The long list of witnesses also includes the two former ministers Ilir Beqaj and Shkëlqim Cani and the partners of the two state concessions of sterilization and check up.
