BDI, The Albanian party in Macedonia (Democratic Union for Integration)
declared that the Albanian platform is not as described by President
Ivanov, who says it is dangerous for the country’s sovereignty.
The vice leader of the BDI, Teuta Arifi, said that different from what Ivanov declared, the platform was drafted in Skopje. In Tirana they only signed it.
Arifi says the draft only takes in consideration the language spoken by a large part of the Macedonian people. It is about equal development of all citizens. The attempt to turn it into a hate element is a serious political irresponsibility.
The Albanian forces declare that this platform demands the implementation of the Ochrid agreement and of the Constitution. It demands an implementation of multi-ethnicity and recognition of Albanians as a state-forming population.
One of the most discussed points of the platform is that of having both languages treated equally, which would allow using Albanian in every government level.
Albanians also want to be included in debates about the flag, the hymn and the state emblems of Macedonia, so that they can reflect the multi-ethnic nature of the country. The other objective is equality in economics and social welfare.
