Muslims throughout the world are celebrating the Eid, the celebration that marks the end of the Holy Month of Ramadan.
This is one of the most important days of the Muslim calendar, but in Cairo it was celebrated with barbed wires and armored cars. Supporters and rivals of the overthrown president, Mohamed Morsi, celebrated divided in different parts of the capital, polarized to a dangerous level. The situation this year looks better and people seem more optimistic.
“Police patrols are still around, but people look happier and have less fear. We are all here, we are all good. What could you want more”, one of them says.
Bangladeshi – Hundreds of people have left the capital to return home for the celebrations. People have flocked in train stations, with many climbing even on the roof just to avoid another wait.
Gaza – The celebration in Gaza is gloomy this year, among ruins and death.
“This celebration is seeing people turn into martyrs and our country is being destroyed. Who can celebrate in this time? When we eat, it looks like poison. They should be ashamed. Where is the world? Why don’t they intervene?”
In the Baqa camp of Jordan, the day of thanking God turned into a day of protest against the Israeli offensive in Gaza. The Palestinian territory was also in the mind of the Afghan President, Hamid Karzai, who wished peace in Gaza and appealed the Taliban militants to end violence.
