The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, focused on the recent political stalemate for the appointing of the new Prosecutor General. Basha said that this is a Constitutional crisis.

“We have a flagrant violation of the Constitution. The judiciary reform has been blocked. This is a constitutional crisis”, said the DP leader, Lulzim Basha, adding that this cannot be resolved with anti-constitutional improvisations.

“The High Council of the Prosecution should have been created within April 10th 2017. Only the HCP can decide for the Prosecutor General. The Constitution leaves no room for a transitory period. Institutions that are not included in the constitution, established by laws that go against the constitution, is made only to sabotage the creation of the Special Prosecution Against Corruption and to make up a political Prosecutor General. Everything else is propaganda, anti-constitutional and goes against the judiciary reform”, Basha said.

He added that the candidates for Prosecutor General must first be vetted. As for the declarations of the US Ambassador, Basha prefers to not comment them and believes that no Ambassador will demand the Constitution to be violated.
