The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, held several meetings today
at the German Parliament, in order to lobby for the candidate status by
the end of the month.
In a meeting with the Chairman of the Commission for European Union matters, Gunther Kirshbaum, the opposition leader underlined that the Democratic Party is determined to support without reserves the European integration of Albania, something that they have clearly shown during these months.
Basha asked the support of Germany for a positive decision in the meeting of the Euroepan Commission for the status. He declared that Albania and the Albanian people deserve the status.
The official announcement says that the collaborators valued the stance of Mr.Basha and of the Democratic Party for the unconditioned support of Albania’s European integration and for the work done by the Democratic Party for realizing the important reforms that made possible the positive recommendation.
As for the current situation, the German officials underlined that the respecting of the rule of law and implementation of the court verdicts, together with he respecting of independent institutions and guaranteeing the institutional space for opposition, together with the fight against organized crimes, traffic and corruption, are European standards that cannot be negotiated.
