Basha: Stop the illegality of this Government

The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, is asking the European
Partners “to intervene and stop the anti-democratic revanche of the
majority”.

These are the words used by Basha in the meeting with the Director for Western Balkans at the Foreign Ministry of Great Britain, Owen Jenkins. The panorama shown by Mr.Basha was that of a country where the government doesn’t respect the Constitution, violates the basic rights of citizens, does not implement the verdicts of the Constitutional Courts and other courts, rejects the opposition’s control through investigative commissions and does everything possible to shut the opposition’s voice through verbal and physical violence, which, according to the DP leader, was implemented by “criminal elements of the majority in Parliament, planned by Edi Rama”.

Basha told the British high-rank official that “these acts of our government have reduced to zero any democratic space for the opposition, obliging it to interrupt any relation with the Parliament”. What dims even more the panorama of democracy in Albania, according to Basha, is that instead of reflecting about what he calls a criminalization of the Parliament, the Rama-Meta majority are intensifying their efforts to capture the independent institutions, the High Council of Justice, the Magistrate School and the other courts.

By expressing to the British government representative the opposition’s determination for “a daily battle in defense of democracy”, Basha believes that this and the persistence of international partners remain the only way to stop the majority’s revanche for replacing the democracy in Albania with an oligarchic regime”.
