The Mayor of Tirana, Lulzim Basha, was accused by the left wined
councilors for the works that have damaged the initial plan of the
Skenderbej Square during the Municipal Council meeting.
After the Socialists asked him to present the financial bill of the works, Basha declared that all new works had respected the previous investments, which have remained functional.
As for the investments that deviated from the plan, Basha admitted the figures published by Top Channel, saying that his administration will hide no financial bills. Basha said that the constructions cost was from 2 to 6 million EUR, and were undertaken as an urgent measure for resolving the traffic problem, which is not a final solution yet.
“We must sit in this council to resolve the road traffic problem. This doesn’t exclude the fact that the square might remain for the pedestrians only, but we must sit together and resolve the traffic problem”, Basha declared.
Basha: We’ll approve an urban plan
Speaking at the Municipal Council, Basha argued that in the past there have been projects, consults, but never an approved urban plan for the city.
“Some of the consultants have not been paid and it is up to the past administration to explain if they have not been convinced for the quality of their job, or anything else. However, this belongs to the future and now it is important to see forward”, Basha declared.
As for the Socialsit opponence, Basha added:
“The political convictions will keep dividing us, but what must unite us, is the service for which the citizens elected us. The lack of an Urban Plan is what causes problems in this city. It is very necessary for the children and senior citizens, who use the public transport, to have their schools near their homes, wider and illuminated roads, more green spaces… a better life in all directions”
The Socialist Councilors protested by saying that they spent 2 million USD for a plan that is already approved, but that has been blocked by higher instances.
“Who will reply for the 2 million EUR and the works that have been made for this plan”, the Socialists asked.
In front of the repeated insistence, Basha repeated that Tirana doesn’t have an approved urban plan. The new administration must bring the project forward.
