One day after the Democratic Party were seen leading the protest of the
van drivers, their leader, Lulzim Basha, explained that it is not the
opposition encouraging the protests.

In the Forum of Tirana for Economic Freedom Foundatin, with the topic “Is etatism turning back”, Basha says that the government is the one causing revolt among the Albanian population.

“There’s no alibi that there is a politicization factor, or that the opposition is enjoying the fact that the Albanians are protesting. On the contrary. The Albanian people are protesting because a quick hit against the foundations of the economy, the market, the freedom, legal safety and the rule of law”, Basha declared.

Basha declared that in this spirit for growing the enmity between Albanians, the power is misusing the police.

“The mentality that Albania could be managed as military barracks, where police is used for every problem, or the mentality that the police is the answer to any problem, has made it possible for the police to be misused in every area, besides the sector for which the voters have given the mandate, which is the security and public order. Only for this sector the police stays silent”, Basha declared.

The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, declared that Rama is undertaking anti-reforms in every sector, and focused on the economic situation. Basha declared that the flat tax and market liberalization was a success of the Democratic Party which Rama is undoing with these changes.

According to Basha, doubiling taxes and focusing the economic regulators to the hands of the state is bringing the formal business to bankruptcy, while 40% of the informal economy continues the activity unconcerned.

“He is attacking the 60%, which came to light only thanks to the flat tax, and is making them pay 50% more”, Basha declared.
