Basha: Our battle, in Parliament

17/10/2013 00:00

Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, declared on Top Story that his
party will continue to fight in Parliament in order to protect the
Albanian laws from what he called illegal acts from the new government.

When asked why the Democratic Party refused to negotiate about the Normative Act that postpones the Civil Employee law, Basha declared that the majority’s invitation was a farce, because the Normative Act cannot be changed or discussed.

Basha declared that there was no sense that the majority voted the law with qualified majority, since one Parliament Member that they needed, the took it from the opposition.

“You said that we should have convinced the government to not undertake a wrong decision, and that’s the point, because the action was already done, it was consumed. The Normative Act entered in effect on September 30th and the consensus was violated. What did they call us for”, Basha declared.

As for the public administration changes, Basha declared that the Democratic Party is not claiming to keep political posts that need to change with a power rotation, and neither those who have abused with their power. But they will protect the administration that has turned into an asset, rotation after rotation.

Basha added that the government has taken several illegal decisions that also damage the citizens’ property, but the Democratic Party will defend them with any democratic and legal means. As for the opposition’s return to Parliament, Basha declared:

“No one should be worried about this. The Democratic Party and the opposition will be very active and very powerful in the Albanian Parliament and every other forum, to continue our role as an opposition”.

Sokol Balla: When will you return in Parliament?

Lulzim Basha: We have not abandoned the Parliamentary activity.

As Mayor of the Albanian capital, Basha also explained the Tirana Municipality’s role for the construction of the new Tirana mosque.

“We didn’t succeed with the negotiations to purchase the land, and that’s why we agreed to do an exchange. For the land that is given to the Muslim Community, the rest of the land would receive a development permit. This was a transparent agreement that we agreed on”, Basha declared.

Sokol Balla: Was that a legally regular agreement?

Lulzim Basha: Completely legal. This happens everyday.

Sokol Balla: Exchanging a piece of land for a construction permit? Because this is the basis here. You give me a piece of land, and I will give you a construction permit?

Lulzim Basha: They are both subjects of the Civil Code, and they have the right to develop their property.

The Democratic Party leader is ready to confront Prime Minister Rama.

“Personally, I have no problem with Mr.Rama, or any other politicians. We are political adversaries and we have had a political confrontation for the Tirana Municipality. We will confront each other again. We have our vision and our project for which we are judged by the people”, Basha declared.
