Democratic Party chairman Lulzim Basha reacted to the intentions expressed by the Prime Minister that the Socialist Party could organize elections even if it was only them to take part in them. He insisted elections without the opposition cannot be held.
“Edi Rama and the high leadership of the Socialist Party, almost everyone decedents of the former communist elite, mistake their wishes with the people’s will and identify their position with democracy”, Rama said. “They have difficulties understanding pluralism. They feel owners of the people but should understand that elections cannot be held without the opposition”.
He insisted opposition parties are in no hurry and have no doubts in their stand because they will not allow elections controlled or influenced by crime. “There will be no elections with Edi Rama as Prime Minister. The situation is simple and clear: we are with the people, they with crime. Only those who are not in a clear mental condition don’t understand that”, he added.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday Basha will begin a visit to the United States, in the first trip abroad after the beginning of the protest. Sources inside the Democratic Party say he will try to gather support in Washington for his request for a technical government, but until now the exact agenda is unknown.
