The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, criticized the government’s
education policies as the new academic year is about to start.
“Rather than bringing joy, the new academic year brings financial anxiety and difficulties for hundreds of thousands of students and their parents, who pay 15 million USD each year for text books in the pre-university system. We are the only country in the region where books for the obligatory education are not distributed for free”, Basha declared.
He said that to buy these books, parents and students have to torture themselves in long queues and selling points, due to the clientist distribution system.
“Books for obligatory education should be distributed free by schools. This would be a very big help for families and their children. A government that works for the citizens invests in books, not in facades of ministries and luxury for government members”, Basha said.
