The Democratic Party has not held a stance so far if they accept the
election results or not, but the opposition leader, Lulzim Basha, told
the OSCE/ODIHR observing mission that the June 25th were a triumph of
illegality.
The main problem of these elections, according to Basha, was a massive vote purchase with a system organized by the party and the government throughout the entire country, supported by criminal gangs.
Basha told the mission that gangs have operated without any obstacle, and in some cases with the help of state structures, using money coming from cannabis traffic.
The opposition leader said that a realistic stance of the OSCE/ODIHR would help the Albanian society to abandon this advanced phase of having democracy replaced with a regime that alters the will of the people, a regime based on crime, and corruption.
Basha said that these elections were not democratic, but the ultimate evidence of the clinical death of free and fair elections in Albania. It seems that this will be one of his topics for running as leader of the Democratic Party.
