Basha: Government, course against integration

The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, told the President of the
French Senate about his concerns regarding what he considers an
anti-democratic and anti-integration course undertaken by the Albanian
government.

According to Basha, this is the reason why some European Union countries became skeptic about Albania and decided to reject the status in December.

The President of the French Senate stated that the European integration is a matter of national interest which requires consensus from both parties. He declared that the decision taken by the Council of Ministers this December was a clear message for Albania to take the necessary reforms.

But, according to the Democratic Party leader, the Albanian government did not read this decision properly: “Rather than working hard for realizing the required reforms, the government blamed the so-called European extremists and kept deepening the negative balance by undoing the standards that had been reached so far, and by undertaking constant attacks against the constitutional institutions, against the law and against the constitution itself”, said the opposition leader to the President of the French Senate.

France is one of the countries which voted against Albania’s candidate status in December.
