The opposition leader, Lulzim Basha, after congratulating and thanking
the Albanian people and political actors who worked for this
achievement, declared that this is the reward of five years of hard work
and joint efforts. According to the opposition leader, the status is
the station where Albania starts its effort for the EU accession.
“This is the end of a path that started five years ago, with the application for the EU candidate status. This is the start of another path.
An important station that we left behind, while another one lays ahead, the opening of the negotiations, the success of which brings to the full membership of our country at the EU.
This news will serve to understand that the stakes are higher now, and each of us expects more from lawmakers who have the citizens’ fates on their hands”, Basha declared.
Berisha greets status
“Major achievement in the integration path. Rama blocked it for two years”
The Albanian former Prime Minister, Sali Berisha, greeted the candidate status on Facebook and declared that this is a major achievement for Albania’s integration path, although delayed.
Berisha thanked the thousands of public administration employees, “whose work and dedication made possible the implementation of the Stabilization Association Agreement”.
He also thanked the EU Foreign Ministers and their countries for the extraordinary support.
The Prime Minister reminded to the Albanian people that the main cause for failing the status in October was that the current Prime Minister, Edi Rama, made an anti-national act by refusing to vote the three laws for which they agreed.
