“The economy is dropping and businesses are facing extreme
difficulties”, said the opposition leader and also Mayor of Tirana,
Lulzim Basha.
Basha said that 10.000 businesses are facing bankruptcy, and that 1 in 3 Albanians has debts.
“One in three Albanians have debts for the daily consumption. This is a direct effect of the government policies. Unemployment is reaching the alarming level of 20%”, Basha declared.
The DP leader accused the current government for arrogance, which, according to him, is replacing the law with the police. He reiterated that everyone is ready to raise up in protests, due to the difficult economic conditions.
“This is the blind mentality of replacing the rule of law tih the police. We want a rule of law, the implementation of law. Without implementing the law there can be no democratic progress, a modern and European state. The law implementation is another thing, and the police is another thing. It is just terror, to cause fear. That’s why more people than ever are united today to raise the voice and start protests for the rights that have been denied”, Basha declared.
But Basha also offers a solution for coming out of the crisis, such as easier measures for businesses.
“The right path is that of reducing taxes and increasing the efficiency. We need an equal tax burden, and not seeing those who are close to politics being favored. This is achieved by increasing the efficiency of the respective structures, by avoiding clientelism, by avoiding abusive profits that are taken by people close to the government, and who are the main consumers of the political climate in our country, not by making it evern more difficult for those who already are in bad conditions”, Basha declared.
The Mayor of Tirana had a meeting with the businesswomen of the Albanian capital, where he heard their complaints.
