Basha: Conditioned relations with Parliament

The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, made it clear that the
opposition will hold conditioned relations with the Parliament until the
majority starts respecting the Constitution.

According to Basha, the anti-democratic behavior of the government with independent institutions and the failure to respect the rule of law put in danger the candidate status in June.

The Democratic Party leader reiterated the opposition’s stance that the status issue should be decided by the free hand of the Albanian citizens, an expression for the meaning of which the Democratic Party has given not explanation.

“I want to reiterate that the cause for an eventual failure with the candidate status in June is being the illegal, anti-consensual and anti-reform course of the Albanian government. Rather than creating all the conditions for the status in the next three months, they have things even more difficult only to rule above the law. It’s naive and ridiculous for those who use the “hiding ostrich” and saying that the blame does not go to the government for being such, but the blame goes to the opposition and the free media outlets for reporting it, together with the social society and the international partners. If there is a real hope for integration, a force that keeps alive the idea of European Albania, it is the opposition, which is fighting for its values. The European integration and the status are an aspiration of our people, a property of our people. It is not an object that belongs to the government. The decision for the status, as underlined by the Head of the Foreign Commission of the European Parliament, will be taken based on the situation of the rule of law. Seeing the refractory stances held by the government, it is becoming imperative for the free citizens to take the status issue on their hands”, Basha declared.
