Basha answers Rama’s public letter

The Democratic Party leader, Lulzim Basha, considered the Prime Minister’s invitation as a clear not sincere political theater.

The Prime Minister told the opposition leader through a public letter that their participation at the Commission for Territorial Administrative Reform was vital. He was ready to discuss this issue in a direct meeting with Mr.Basha, leader of the Albanian opposition.

But Democratic Party leader says that the Prime Minister’s position shows nothing new, since the majority doesn’t want consensual voting of the reform in Parliament. In his letter, Basha says that consensus has sense only when it is finalized with Parliament votes.

“Essentially, the Prime Minister invites us for drafting the law through consensus at the Commission and then vote it only with the Parliament’s majority numbers. In other words, you are offering us to watch consensus, but not to have consensus”, Basha declared.

Basha remindds the Prime Minister about what he called “a multiple and repeated blockage” by the local and central governments.

“Damaging and making steps back with the local autonomy compromises and puts in question the purpose of your majority for drafting the territorial reform unilaterally”, declared the opposition leader, who is also mayor of Tirana.

Basha used this message to mention the behavior of the Prime Minister and the majority against the opposition, which Basha calls indecent, arrogant and that is leaving fewer chances to the opposition in Parliament.

By reiterating this, the Democratic Party leader left an open door for the meeting with the Prime Minister or with any other representative.

“Especially if he is ready to meet and discuss about the five priorities needed for the status, and for opening negotiations with the European Union, as a supreme national interest”, Basha declared, saying that he is ready to meet also for the territorial administrative reform.

What catches the attention in this letter, is that the opposition leader has written a very clear condition set by the Democratic Party.

“The key issue which should be confirmed publicly is only one: do you agree or not to vote this reform through consensus in Parliament? Because consensus at the Commission is not sufficient”.

The Democratic Party leader concludes his letter with a tone of irony, saying that only by accepting the consensus they could avoid to make this meeting just another reading of the letters they exchanged publicly”.
