Bank of Albania Governor: Greek crisis will not affect our economy

“Albania and banks in our country are not endangered by the bankruptcy
of Greece”, says the Governor of the Bank of ALbania, Gent Sejko, in an
interview for Top Channel.

He says there might be a reduction of remittances and trade exchanges, but this trend has been present even earlier.

As for the bad loans in Albania, the Governor says they hamper credit growth, and they represent 22.8% of the total loans in the banking system, a considerable amount that creates pessimism.
According to Bejko, one solution of this problem, as discussed in the Third Financial Forum held this Thursday, would be making a voluntary restructuring of the bad loans debt. Banks themselves, in cooperation with the clients, must agree and resolve the stalemate with this debt in order to let businesses breathe and grow.
