The Governor of the Albanian Bank, Ardian Fullani, rejected all government assessments that show a 5% of the Albanian economic growth.
“The Albanian Bank judges that there are all possibilities to reach last year’s level, but there are also the chances to reach a higher level in a medium term”, Fullani declared.
The Albanian economy grew with 3.9% during 2010. The Governor says that Albania will return to a higher growth level in a medium term, after a few years.
The bank based its assessments on the indicators of the first semester, while the Governor declared that the economy is suffering a big drop in demand, therefore he appealed consumers to be more optimistic.
“Family consumption has all capabilities to grow and to be stimulated in a medium and long term period. We must see to achieve this also in a short term context”, Fullani underlined.
The Governor addressed these declarations in the monthly meeting of the Supervisory Board, which decided to keep the basic interest rate unchanged at 5.25%.
