Bank Governor, first night in prison

06/09/2014 00:00

The Governor of the Bank of Albania, Ardian Fullani, and the General
Chief Inspector, Elivar Golemi might stay in prison at least until a
request will be made at the Court of Appeal, although the hearing
session for the security measure will be held this Monday.

The lawyer of Mrs.Golemi will request a lighter measure at the Court of Appeal, using the argument that his client is a public person that doesn’t present a social danger, and should be investigated free. The Prosecution has consumed their right for protection in first instance.

“We will make a complaint of this decision at the Court of Appeal, because the first instance was consumed. This Monday we expect a verification of the security measure. Certainly that there will be investigations, but the measure should be appropriate to the person and his act. A 37-year-old intellectual woman is being held in prison without posing a threat. She can be tried while being free”, added Fatos Shanaj, lawyer of Elivar Golemi.

The security measure has never been changed in Albania during the session when it is announced, except for when the Prosecution withdraws. That’s why her lawyers are making a request for changing the security measure.

The Bank Governor and the Chief Inspector, Elivar Golemi, were arrested by order of the Court of Tirana. The footage shown exclusively by Top Channel showed how the governor was taken by the police. A few hours later, the Prosecution made public all accusations against the two highest functionaries of the Bank of Albania.
